Pilot Comments for EGFF
Sebastian
No PPR required, but the Aero Club appreciates a call. Complex airspace with VFR arrival and departure routes that you should review beforehand, as ATC expects you to be familiar with them. After vacating, you need to find your own parking spot south of the runway at the Aero Club. Avgas is available there for 2.61€ and you also pay the landing fee there—20 GPB for an AA5. The Aero Club members tended (perhaps due to the associated flight school operation) toward somewhat excessive refresher training on local procedures. A restaurant is also located right next to the Aero Club. We used the airport to depart the UK for Jersey without any issues. Overall, relatively GA-friendly for its size.

No PPR required. VFR and IFR operations are straightforward, with published VFR routes and standard instrument approaches (ILS and LPV RNAV) on both runways; one instrument approach is included in the landing fee. GA is mainly handled by the Aeros flying club on the south side, which operates 08:30–17:30 local time; other handlers such as Signature Flight Support and Global Trek are available, with extended hours and additional services. Hi-viz jackets are compulsory airside. Startup requests are expected, and booking out must be done by phone from the Aeros club office.
Landing fees typically range from about £20 to £25, with overnight parking around £15. Handling fees vary: the flying club does not charge handling, while commercial handlers charge about £60. Example: landing fee about £20; handling fee about £60; overnight parking about £15; airport policing charge about £4; passenger departure charge per additional passenger about £20. One free instrument approach is included in the landing fee.
AVGAS is available via the flying club, but fuel delivery from the north side may involve delays due to runway crossings. The Aeros club offers assistance and has an upstairs café/restaurant with a terrace, though food availability varies. Signature Flight Support (+44 1446 712637) and cwl@signatureflight.co.uk are available for handling and fueling on the north side.
Transport into Cardiff city centre takes 30–50 minutes by taxi (£30–£50), depending on provider and time of day. The Rhoose railway station is a 10–15 minute walk from the south apron, with hourly trains to Cardiff Central taking about 30 minutes; walking route signage is limited. Airport shuttle buses operate only from the north side.
Facilities on the south side are basic but GA-friendly, with self-parking allowed near the maintenance apron. Security procedures can be time-consuming on both sides of the airport. The airport is generally considered cooperative and suitable for non-commercial GA flights. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
