Pilot Comments for EKYT
Sebastian
Excellent in every aspect!
Full IFR service available seven days a week from 0600-2230 lcl. Some traffic with mostly A320 and B737, but also business jets and A330 possible. ATC handled it absolutely calm and stressfree.
Parking on GA ramp with car transfer by friendly marshaller. You leave the terminal like a regular passenger through the terminal. All rental car companies are represented at the other end of the terminal.
When you are departing first go to the airport office. After a brief security check you pay your fees at the front desk and the marshaller brings you to your aircraft. Took less than ten minutes from the door bell to the plane.
Landing fees for a Piper Cherokee (<1to) about 10€.
Parking for six days was 35€.
Airport fees can be checked on the Airport website.
AVGAS not available. I suggest to go to Randers (EKRD) for refuelling.

Aalborg (EKYT) is a well-equipped regional airport suitable for both VFR and IFR operations, with no PPR required for customs. ATC and ground staff are consistently described as professional and friendly, with efficient handling and quick turnaround. The airport features a large GA parking apron, and marshaller assistance is sometimes required but self-parking is often permitted. After landing, pilots typically switch to a handling frequency for parking instructions.
Facilities include a modern terminal, crew lounge with free coffee, bathrooms, and all major car rental companies on site. Avgas is available via self-service pump accepting credit cards; payment can also be arranged through the C office if needed. The airport offers easy access to public transport, with frequent buses and trains connecting to Aalborg city; a typical ticket costs about €5. Food options are available inside the terminal, including access to the departures area after security for meals.
Landing and parking fees are generally low. Example: landing and overnight parking about €20. Procedures for apron access vary: sometimes walking in high-visibility vests is allowed, other times transport must be requested by radio or phone. The airport is open 24/7.
There is a restriction zone over the city due to drone activity; arriving from the south requires maintaining at least 900 ft until reaching the fjord. Winds can be strong and variable in Aalborg; pilots should prepare accordingly.
Customs procedures can be inconsistent for flights from outside the EU; advance notification by email may not always be acknowledged promptly, so retaining proof of notification is advisable to avoid fines. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
Aalborg offers a convenient stop for GA flights in Scandinavia, with good value fees and comprehensive facilities.
