Aosta Airport (LIMW)

Aosta (LIMW) offers a scenic approach through the Alps, with VFR arrivals straightforward via several valleys. The airport operates with AFIS only; radio service is generally friendly and clear, though English proficiency and service quality can vary, especially during departures. For IFR, only Italian CAA-authorised operators may use the published procedures; otherwise, departures are visual only. The 5° IGS approach does not align directly with the runway due to terrain.

Customs checks can be slow and thorough, often taking 15–20 minutes on arrival and sometimes requiring passport copies. Handling is performed by airport staff rather than a separate company. Parking is ample on the apron; hangar space is rarely available in advance but may be possible on request.

AVGAS 100LL is available at competitive prices for Italy; fueling is assisted by staff and payment can be made by credit card or BP card. The fuel station is located at one end of the apron, with payment required at the office on the opposite side.

Ground transport includes taxis to Aosta city centre (about 10–15 minutes, €15–€16 per ride), rental cars from Europcar (desk at airport), and a bus service into town. The city offers historic sites and restaurants within easy reach.

Facilities include a bar/bistro serving meals throughout the day, a briefing room in the aeroclub, and WiFi (access code may not always be provided). Marshaller assistance is standard on arrival.
